Charity work at IET Glasgow: Teacher Building

Pedal for Scotland

Andrew Horsburgh (Venue manager) and Shaun Fieldhouse (Hospitality Duty Co-ordinator) embarked on Scotland’s biggest bike event, cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh to raise money for a vital cause, the Marie Trust who provide a day centre for the homeless and displaced persons.

Andrew Horsburgh said, “It was tough work and gruelling at points but a fantastic experience for a good cause and a great way to experience the fantastic countryside between Scotland’s two major cities.”

Charity abseil off the Titan

Fraser Richmond (Venue Deputy Manager) and Alison Horsburgh (Front of House Event Assistant) undertook the terrifying 150ft abseil off the Titan Crane at Clydebank to raise money for the Marie Trust.

Alison Horsburgh said, “You don’t realise how high the Titan Crane is until you’re at the top standing on the edge looking out across Glasgow! The hardest point was stepping off the edge and looking down but once you get going you’re full concentration is on the decent and you forget your fear.”

The R
ucksack Project

The reception team; Susan McDowall, Alison Horsburgh and Lorna Fotheringham facilitated  donations for IET thermal mugs to go towards the purchase of rucksacks, sleeping bags, flasks, spoons, gloves, hats, fleeces, undies, socks and extra food to then be given to the homeless via The Rucksack Project.

Susan McDowall said, “It’s a fantastic cause that stems from community spirit and the belief that no one should go without the bare necessities needed to survive.”
