Belbin Team Roles
Belbin Team Roles is a Team Development programme of identification of specifically behavioural strengths in the workplace. It is based upon the belief that 'Members of a team seek out certain roles and they perform most effectively in the ones that are most natural to them.'
This programme is one which measures behaviour and not personality and so can be understood as a measure of a person's tendency to behave, react, contribute and inter-relate to others in certain ways.
The focus of Belbin is understanding an individual's strengths as well as the strengths of others and the ways in which these may clash or complement one another in the daily working environment.
Importantly the programme has a specific focus on what are termed 'allowable weaknesses' and are the elements of character which are unique to each team role.
They key thing is reaching a balance through self-awareness and understanding on a personal level as well as in a professional setting.
Myers Briggs Type Indicators are a means of classifying oneself and gaining an insight into the type of individual you are, your strengths and working preferences in order to provide a useable framework for individual and group development, provoking self-awareness by looking at how a person perceives the world and how they prefer to interact with others.
Our MBTI workshops begin using a self-evaluation questionnaire in order to define which of the psychological 'types' each individual is.
This allows identification of similarities and differences between individuals who work together, allowing teams to improve their working and personal relationships in a positive and constructive way, to avoid conflict and become more efficient.
